Center fielder Marlon Byrd had 4 hits and 5 RBI at the ballpark as the North
Dallas Fire Ants, running on all cylinders, ripped the Vernon Hillbillies by
a large 15 to 4 margin.
Byrd really lit it up for North Dallas. The Vernon fans let him have it for
what he did to their boys. He doubled which scored a run in the 1st inning,
doubled scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning, lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run in the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning.
North Dallas lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning when they had 5 runs on
5 hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 6 hits. North
Dallas had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate
innings.
The win was credited to Mark Buehrle(1-0) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing
4 runs. James Shields(0-2) suffered the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 1 walk
in 2/3 of an inning.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Byrd said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
